Who comes

Pilates can be for everyone.

Our classes contain people of all ages and are presented in a relaxed, no-pressure way. Everyone is built differently, and often people have something that needs special consideration — a back issue, knee problem, hip problem or one of the many issues that can affect us all in our lifetimes. Classes are programmed to take these into account, and special exercises are recommended where appropriate. Classes are unisex and contain both women and men.

The Pilates Method

Pilates in two sentences.

Pilates sets out to strengthen the body in an even way, with a strong emphasis on core strength, well-being and general fitness. Many professional dancers, athletes and sports people take Pilates classes as part of their training programme.

Mind and muscle

The Pilates Method encourages the use of the mind to control the muscles, resulting in better looks, improved health and feeling-good factors.

The benefits

Improved health and fitness; prevents pain and rehabilitates injuries; increased strength and mobility; improved posture, coordination, flexibility and balance.

Easy and simple

The beauty of the Pilates Method is that it accommodates all levels of fitness and all ages. It has a proven track record of more than 80 years as a safe, effective and common-sense method of exercise.

Fiona Payne

Fiona Payne has been teaching in the Health Related Fitness sector since 1988, initially teaching Ski Fitness, Exercise to Music, Aerobics, Step, Slide, Aqua, Post & Ante Natal and Children's Fitness. She has taught at Adult Education in Surrey, Sussex and Kent, local sports clubs, The Open University and various corporate organisations, as well as presenting masterclasses abroad.

Private clients within the film and music industry, motor racing and equestrian arenas over the years have encouraged a wide range of individual study. Whilst working in schools Fiona also introduced The International Aerobics Federation Sports Awards, enabling many students to complete the Duke of Edinburgh physical sport element.

In 1996 a return to Pilates, having experienced classes with world-renowned Pilates expert Alan Herdman (responsible for bringing Pilates to the UK in the 1970s) and classes with Trevor Blount in Kensington. She attended training with Stott Pilates, the Australian Physiotherapy and Pilates Institute (APPI), the Pilates Advanced Training and Research Academy (PATARA) and Body Control Pilates, with modules in Alexander Technique and Feldenkrais.

From this wider training Fiona feels that she can draw elements to compile varied classes, providing all students with safe and effective exercises whilst remaining true to the classical Pilates repertoire. Many class members have been attending weekly classes for over 20 years.

Q & A

Things people ask.

What's the difference between Yoga and Pilates?

Yoga and Pilates are similar; they both help increase strength. Yoga focuses on breathing, strength and flexibility, whereas Pilates focuses on toning your body, improving posture and movement.

Just what is Pilates?

Pilates is a form of low-impact exercise and is full-body, helping you do everything better.

Is Pilates good for weight loss?

Practising Pilates regularly as part of a varied exercise routine can help you lose weight — provided your energy output is higher than your energy input.

Is Pilates good for arthritis?

Pilates can help reduce stiffness and improve muscle mobility, stability, flexibility and strength.

What does Pilates do for you?

Increased sport and activities performance. Helping to balance your body and develop muscular symmetry, with reduced likelihood of injuries. Reduced stress and anxiety: muscles take on tension, causing stress on your body, and Pilates can help you relieve that tension and help relaxation.

What are the main benefits of Pilates?

You will have a greater range of flexibility and motion, and increased opportunity to achieve more. You will have better body awareness, improved posture, breathing technique, increased stamina, reduced stress, and better mindfulness and concentration.

No prices are shown in this preview. The only figures on the current site are labelled with a year four years past, so we have left the row honestly blank rather than repeat a number that may be out of date.

About this preview

This page was built in an afternoon from what is publicly on gotopilates.org. It is a taste of the direction, not the final thing. The real build would be considerably more detailed and would carry Fiona's own pages in full:

  • Home
  • Pilates Classes
  • Join A Class Here
  • Q & A
  • About Us
  • Contact Us
  • NHS Pilates
  • Pilates Gallery
  • Pilates History
  • Pilates Class Announcements

It would also carry her own photography throughout, both classes in full, live booking on her own diary with a class register and term blocks, SEO and analytics, a complete price list, and working contact forms.

What is placeholder here, honestly:

  • The class times and venues shown are her own published times, taken from her home page.
  • No prices are shown, because the only prices on her site are labelled as charges for a year four years past.
  • There are no testimonials, because her site carries none.
  • Any "join" control is illustrative and nothing submits. No forms, no payment, no login, no cookies, no data collected.

This preview is deleted immediately on request.
